Docent Museum Opening and Closing Guide
Arrival and Set-up
One of the Members with a key will be available to open the museum each Sunday. If, for some reason, the museum is not open when you arrive, please call people on key the list below ** in the order listed.
- Open the door to the stairwell, and take down the security bar on the double outer doors facing East Main Rd.
- Holding bottom of wooden bar on either side of center, slide bar left or right as far as it will go.
- When opposite end falls free of end support bracket, lift other end clear of opposite end bracket and remove bar for temporary storage.
- Stand bar on end and stow in the recess next to the stairway, by the milk can.
- Remove pin on center retaining shim by pushing pin plunger and stow with bar.
- In the EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY: Push the center shim outwards as you push open both front doors carefully.
- Turn on the two switches for the main museum overhead lights
- Switch in the front stairwell
- Switches at the back of the upstairs hall
- Plug in the display case lights at the 4 receptacles, one at each pole.
- Turn on the TV Monitor by pressing the power button on the underside of the left corner of the screen) (If the Computer is not on, see Computer Display Startup below)
- Regulate temperature as needed at thermostat above piano
- Upstairs, turn on the sound system amplifier (Red button at upper right) underneath the piano and start the organ music tape (Left Yellow Button), if desired.
- Hang the OPEN Flag on the flag holder in the Historical Society Sign.
- Ensure that the American Flag is raised on the Flagpole. (The Board will make sure there is someone available to raise and lower the flag)
- One of the Members with a key will unlock to door to the Schoolhouse and the Town Hall.
- Turn on the “Mount Hope Bridge” in both the museum and Town Hall.
- Turn on the overhead lights in the Old Town Hall with the switch on the wall behind the right front door.
Close Down (reversal of Opening Procedures)
- Unplug the Bridge light, turn out the lights in the Old Town Hall and secure with padlock **.
- Lock Schoolhouse with padlock. (The schoolhouse has no electricity).
- Remove the OPEN Sign flag and ensure that the American Flag is lowered and folded. (The Board will make sure there is someone available to lower the flag and fold it if needed.)
- Turn off the lights in the upstairs church with the 2 switches by the doorway and turn off the sound system amplifier under the piano.
- Turn off two thermostats to the right and left of podium or adjust as required.
- Check that upstairs exit door is securely closed.
- Close and latch the downstairs outer & inner front doors (securely) and install the interior outer door shim and security bar (See Opening Procedure)
- Turn off the Stairwell Light.
- Close and latch the door to the stairwell securely, and as well as the library and office doors (all rooms facing East Main Rd) to set the security perimeter.
- Secure kitchen outer and inner doors with latches.
- Turn off all downstairs room lights.
- Unplug the plugs to the display case lights
- Turn the lights off to the main floor (right of stairwell door and left of office door).
- Power down the computer display (with remote or by depressing the power switch (underside of lower left of the display). LEAVE THE COMPUTER ON AND ENSURE THE POWER CORD IS POWERED BY THE RECEPTACLE.
- Ensure one of the members with keys is present to lock the main museum door and set the alarm. (if you close the main museum door and stand still for a minute so that the motion sensor does not sense movement the display will say “SYSTEM READY” (on the wall inside the door)) that means that all the alarm contacts are closed). Without making too much motion, key in the security code and when asked choode “ALL” to set the museum alarm. You will then see a 45 second countdown which allows you to exit, securely close the front door and lock it. Give a pull to ensure it is locked.
COMPUTER DISPLAY STARTUP
To Start up the TV Display and Computer
- Turn on the TV Monitor ( Red ON key on the remote or the manual button on the lower left corner of the TV
- If the computer is not on, press the ON button ( Top middle of the keyboard)
- There is not password – just press RETURN at the login screen
- Click on any slide and press “Slide Show” and the Slide Show Should start
To Shut down the TV Display
- Press the RED button on the remote to turn off the TV (or press the manual button on the lower left underside of the TV)
- LEAVE THE COMPUTER ON
- DO NOT UNPLUG THE COMPUTER FROM THE POWER STRIP AND LEAVE THE POWER STRIP PLUGGED IN TO THE RECPTACLE
